Harry Redknapp delivers verdict as Everton complete Josh King signing

Harry Redknapp has told Sky Sports News (Monday, 10.50PM) that he believes Everton have completed an excellent bit of business in the form of Bournemouth striker Josh King – beating Fulham to his signature.

King, 29, was left with the choice of joining Fulham or Everton in the dying moments of deadline day. The 51-time Norway international eventually moved to Merseyside, with the help of a deal sheet allowing Everton to secure him.

The striker has been linked with a return to the Premier League for much of the 2020-21 campaign after Bournemouth were relegated into the Championship. He has failed to score a league goal for the Cherries this term.

But he has scored three goals in two FA Cup games – and ex-Bournemouth manager Redknapp thinks he will be an excellent signing for The Toffees, with Sky Sports claiming King has joined Everton for a “nominal fee”.

“Calvert-Lewin will play in the middle – he can play off the right, the left he can play alongside Calvert-Lewin,” Redknapp said. “He’s direct, got pace. It’s a good signing.

“If he regains the form he shown in the last four or five years he has been there, he can be a real asset to Everton. They lack pace, but he’s got electric pace – he is a clever runner, he will add another dimension to Everton.

TBR’s view – But will King get the game time at Everton?

That he would have at Fulham? Aleksandar Mitrovic is struggling with the West London side, and King would have been a starter for Scott Parker’s side – or at least pushing very close. At Everton, he is firmly back-up.

England ace Calvert-Lewin is in excellent form and Carlo Ancelotti has turned the number nine into a quality striker. Will he get the game time required, given he has signed a six-month deal? Not as much as he would have at Fulham.
