Harry Redknapp has told The Sun that he would be amazed if Tottenham Hotspur did not manage to lift a trophy this season, insisting that they are contenders to win the Premier League.

Spurs have made an outstanding start to the campaign. They are through to the knockout stages of the Europa League. And a win in the North London derby will see them go back to the summit of the top flight.

Jose Mourinho seems to be getting the best out of several key men. Meanwhile, a number of players have stepped up significantly this season.

And ahead of the derby, Redknapp claimed that he cannot see Spurs’ season ending without silverware.

“Have a look at the players in his squad and there is no doubt Spurs are absolute thoroughbreds . . . and they will be right in the thick of it,” he told The Sun.

“Harry Winks can’t even get in the squad at times and he’s an England player. Dele Alli comes off the bench and scores in Europe in midweek. There’s Ben Davies, Matt Doherty, Davinson Sanchez not getting a start — and I’ve not even mentioned Gareth Bale.

“I’ve said all along they could well be champions this season — but if they don’t manage that, I’ll be amazed if Tottenham don’t win a trophy of some kind.”

It does appear that Spurs have a fantastic opportunity. Not only are their star players performing, but they also have so much quality throughout the squad.

As Redknapp notes, a number of excellent players are having to bide their time and wait for opportunities.

Tottenham now appear to have a couple of superb options in almost every position. And they could potentially strengthen further in January.

Many – including this particular writer – doubted whether Mourinho at Tottenham would work out. However, having now spent just over a year in the role, it really appears that the Portuguese was exactly what they needed.
