Earlier this morning Harry Redknapp claimed that Frank Lampard would certainly be considering the Aston Villa job.

The former Tottenham boss told TalkSPORT (7:36am, 09/11) that the ex-Chelsea incumbent would relish the chance to head to Aston Villa.

Lampard has also been linked with the vacancy at Norwich and it’d seem he’s a wanted man.

Villa parted company with Dean Smith over the weekend and are now searching for a new boss.

Lampard is one of several names linked with the vacancy, with the Daily Mail confirming as much.

Now, Redknapp has claimed that Lampard would seriously fancy the top job at Villa Park.

He told TalkSPORT (7:36am, 09/11): “I know he’s been linked with Norwich but the Aston Villa job is there as well. For sure that job would interest him, Villa is a fantastic club.”

Lampard led Derby County to the play-off final during his maiden season in management.

Ironically, his Rams team was beaten by Villa in the final and it proved to be the beginning of the unravelling for Derby.

He jumped ship after just one year at Pride Park.

The Chelsea job became available and he guided the team to a top-four finish, despite a transfer ban in place at Stamford Bridge.

Caution: Lampard could be a risk for Aston Villa

Although the former Chelsea midfielder has showcased some potential, is he really what the Villans need right now?

It would perhaps represent a sideways step for the club to appoint Lampard as the man to replace Smith.

Although his track record is okay, he’s relatively inexperienced in the management game and the jury would be out over whether he could take the club to the next level.

Lampard looks destined to be back at work in the near future.

Villa must tread with caution though and perhaps a bigger name should be sought by the club.
