Harry Kewell discusses whether Arsenal should raid Wolves for Nuno Espirito Santo

Harry Kewell has told Sky Sports’ The Debate podcast (November 27) that he believes Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Nuno Espirito Santo is not yet ready to be Arsenal manager, but could be by the end of the season.

Unai Emery is coming under increasing pressure as Gunners boss after failing to win in their last six league and cup outings. Arsenal have not won a Premier League match since October 6, which was a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth.

BBC Sport reported on Thursday that Santo is a possible replacement for Emery, if the Gunners do decided to offload the Spaniard. Santo has previously managed Valencia and Porto, winning over half of his games for both clubs.

Asked if Santo is ready for a club like Arsenal, Kewell responded by claiming Arsenal should let the 45-year-old stick it out at Wolves this season and prove he can hack it in the Europa League – before The Gunners come calling.

“He’s done a wonderful job at Wolves,” Kewell said. “I think if he does well this year in the Europa League, then he deserves a chance [at Arsenal]. I think that is something Arsenal should consider when hiring a manager.”

TBR’s view – Is Nuno a good choice for Arsenal manager?

His history certainly says so. Yes, Nuno has had money at Valencia, Porto and now Wolves to spend, but he has made excellent signings and took Wolves into the Europa League in his first Premier League campaign.

He has created a team mixed with physicality, leadership, experience, flair, speed and goals. He has all the ingredients to keep pushing Wolves into a side that can regularly finish in the top half of the Premier League.

So, yes, Nuno would be an excellent choice as Arsenal manager. But would Nuno go to Arsenal? That remains to be seen.
