'One of the best': Harry Kane says £20m Liverpool player is just 'outstanding' at everything

Harry Kane has been singing the praises of Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson after England saw off Senegal at the World Cup last night.

Henderson got the opening goal for the Three Lions and put in another performance to justify his selection. Going into the tournament, Henderson wasn’t considered one of the starters for England. However, he has since formed a fine midfield three with Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice.

And speaking about Henderson today, skipper Harry Kane couldn’t praise him enough.

“I’ve always said Hendo is one of the best leaders I’ve played with. He’s very vocal, he pushes players to their absolute max. That’s why he’s been great in the games he’s played. Outstanding with the ball, outstanding without the ball – pushing everyone,” Kane said on the Lion’s Den show on England’s YouTube.

“The way we’ve been pressing, it’s good to hear him behind me pushing me. That’s what you need, different types of leaders amongst your team and we have that. We have four/five different types of personalities and people who have got big personalities. Hendo is someone who it doesn’t matter who you are, what you’ve done – he’ll keep pushing you. As you saw yesterday, it was an amazing performance by him and it’s great to see him score. A lot of the other good stuff was down to his role in the team.”

Liverpool paid just £20m to sign Henderson back in 2011. Since then, they’ve won everything.

TBR’s View: No surprise Kane sees Henderson’s qualities

The best players always recognise the other top players and Jordan Henderson is a top player, despite dividing opinion at times in his career.

Sure, there are more naturally talented players in the England squad. The likes of Bellingham, Grealish and Saka will always take plaudits and rightly so. But Henderson brings so much, and Kane clearly recognises that.

Kane is a leader himself. But the best teams have a number of leaders and Henderson is one of them. He is captain of Liverpool for a reason and it’s little wonder Gareth Southgate picks him. Come the end of this World Cup, Henderson might well end up being England’s best player.
