Harry Kane responds to tiredness claims at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has rejected claims Mauricio Pochettino has overworked his players.

Spurs have been really struggling in recent weeks and results have not been good.

They’ve won just three of their 12 games in all competitions so far this season, and supporters have expressed their frustrations at both the manager and certain individuals in the team.

Spurs have not been their usual selves out on the pitch, where the press and work rate so often associated with Pochettino has been much less intense.

It led to a reporter asking vice-captain Kane about the state of the players, but the 26-year-old has denied there are fitness issues.

Speaking in a news conference before Spurs’ Champions League game with Red Star Belgrade, he said in typical professional fashion (football.london): “There’s going to be speculation when things aren’t going well.

“When you’re not winning games, people will look from the outside for excuses, from our point of view we work hard every day.

“We have worked hard since the manager came here to improve as players and as a team, that hasn’t changed.

“It would be wrong to do more or less, we need to carry on doing what we have always done and that is keep working as hard as possible.”

TBR’s view – Players must step up

It is difficult to pinpoint exactly where it is going wrong for Tottenham at the moment, but there does seem to be a lack of intensity from the team – whether that’s down to fatigue is anyone’s guess.

Red Star are no pushovers, but do represent a good opportunity for Spurs to prove there aren’t any issues of tiredness.
