‘Harry Kane is the league’s best finisher’ – Three things learnt from Hull City 1-7 Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur’s season came to an end with a trip to already relegated Hull City. While their league position of second was guaranteed, there was the matter of individual awards to play for. Harry Kane was in line for the golden boot after scoring four last time out and Hugo Lloris could share the golden glove with Thibaut Courtois with a clean sheet.

As for Hull City, a much-changed side meant that lesser used players had the opportunity to impress, including 17-year-old Josh Tymon and 20-year-old Jarrod Bowen. Despite last week’s relegation, the Tigers’ supporters were in good voice for much of the game, making it clear to manager Marco Silva that they wanted him to stay at the club.

Although both side’s fates were already finalised, the game felt like more than a classic last day dead rubber, here are three things The Boot Room learnt from it:

Kane is the league’s best finisher

If any player wins back-to-back golden boots they have earned it. Harry Kane has now done just that. Ultimately, his three goals against Hull were unimportant in the fight against Romelu Lukaku for the personal accolade, yet they meant he had seven in two games and 29 in 30, underlining his place as the Premier League’s best striker.

Kane has now scored over 20 Premier League goals in each of his three full seasons in the Spurs first team. His recent form has shown that there can be no questions over his hunger or ability to score, even when results have no bearing on the table.

Even last year in his second prolific campaign, pundits and critics sometimes doubted his ability, wondering if he was a one, or even two season wonder. Those questions should now be finally put to bed, as the Englishman continues to fire Spurs closer to a title challenge.
