Harry Kane’s future at Tottenham Hotspur has been cast into doubt in recent weeks. The England captain has hinted he could decide to leave Spurs as he aims to win silverware. After the club’s difficult 2019-20 campaign, that viewpoint is understandable.
As reported by Bleacher Report this week, Kane has a ‘one-year notice agreement’ with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy. Spurs want £200 million for the player, currently not possible in the global health crisis, and Kane has seemingly agreed to stay for one more season before he will be allowed an exit.

It is a similar situation to that of Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United in 2008. The Portuguese forward was desperate to fulfill a dream of playing for Real Madrid, feeling he had conquered all challenges at Old Trafford. Sir Alex Ferguson convinced Ronaldo to stay for one more year before selling the then 24-year-old to Real Madrid, where the rubber-stamped his status as one of the game’s best ever.
Kane has never made his admiration for Ronaldo a secret. As reported by Goal, the Tottenham star admitted Ronaldo is his ‘role model’, and to live up to his level of success the time has clearly come for Kane to leave Spurs.
“He’s a big role model of mine, watching him when I was growing up.
“It’s a nice shirt to get and frame. I gave him my shirt. I don’t know what he’ll do with it. We just said, ‘See you in a couple of weeks’.”
In fact, at 26, he might be a bit late.
Ronaldo had already won three Premier League titles and a Champions League before leaving for Madrid. Kane has come close with both at Spurs but it appears evident now that a move is necessary to emulate his role model.
After leaving United, Ronaldo went on to win a further four Champions League titles as well as La Liga twice and, at Juventus, a Scudetto.
Kane is clearly of the belief to have anything like the trophy case of a player he idolised growing up, it is also time to make his move.
