Harry Kane closing in on Greaves at Tottenham could prove a negative – TBR View

Tottenham striker Harry Kane propelled himself to 200 Spurs goals last night with yet another strike in the 3-1 win over Ludogrets.

It means it’s taken just over six years for Kane to hit the magical 200 mark, putting him just 66 behind all-time record goalscorer at the club, Jimmy Greaves.

As things stand, Kane should get there before the age of 30, given he normally gets over the 20 goal mark if he stays fit in a campaign and has already hit an impressive 12 goals already.

However, while the record is in sight for Kane and it will be a remarkable achievement, could it actually prove to be a negative in terms of his future with Spurs? There’s certainly an argument to be made for that to be the case.

Especially so, if when Kane does hit that record, Tottenham still haven’t captured a trophy.

Achieving everything there is to do

Of course, Kane would love nothing more than to deliver the goods for Tottenham. Winning a trophy as captain of the club would be the icing on the cake and make his commitment to the club worthwhile.

But, as we’ve seen in the past, some players do eventually move on if they aren’t winning. Feasibly, Kane could hit those 66 goals to equal and surpass Greaves in the next 24-36 months. By then, he’d still be around 30 and well into his prime years.

Could it be possible, then, that Kane would seek to move away from the club to capture some silverware. On the other hand, the Spurs ace could choose to go full Alan Shearer and simply stay put.

For Spurs fans, though, there must be some sort of worry that their skipper is thinking along this sort of thought train.

Hopefully, Tottenham can win under Mourinho. No manager is better placed to deliver a trophy than the Portuguese coach and it could prove pivotal in ensuring Harry Kane remains.
