Harry Forrester’s Iranian nightmare since leaving Rangers

This summer saw Rangers appoint Steven Gerrard as their new boss. With that in mind, plenty of Pedro Caixinha’s arrivals at Ibrox were swiftly turfed out. However, the Mark Warburton recruits were hardly safe. Harry Forrester was also told he could leave. After 44 games and eight goals for the club, he was released in July by Gerrard. It came after a season on loan at AFC Wimbledon, after being told not to train with the Glasgow club by Caixinha.

His next career move was certainly a bold one. He headed to Iran. The 27-year-old joined Tractor Sazi along with other former Scottish league representatives Lee Erwin and Anthony Stokes.

The key was John Toshack. The former Wales and Real Madrid boss was manager at the club and convinced the British and Irish lads to head to the Persian Pro League.

However, it has not turned out to be a success. After two games, including a 3-0 defeat against Esteghlal, he found himself on the bench. Toshack soon left and Forrester was no longer in the squad.

He was therefore loaned out to rivals Machine Sazi. But Forrester has not yet featured in a matchday squad for the club.

Rangers fans will no doubt have a lot of time for Forrester. He helped bring Scottish Premiership football back to Ibrox and always gave 100 percent for the Glasgow club.

So to see him struggling so badly since being given the shove by Gerrard will not be welcomed by the Rangers faithful.
