Clint Hill and Harry Forrester expressed their joy on Twitter as Rangers earned a second Old Firm derby victory of the season on Sunday afternoon at Ibrox.
Celtic had already secured the Scottish Premiership title with a 3-0 win over Aberdeen the previous weekend, but were now playing for Glasgow pride at Ibrox – where they lost 1-0 earlier in the season.
Neil Lennon’s future remains to be seen, but losing to the Gers will not have helped his chances. An early James Tavernier free kick bamboozled Scott Bain, before Scott Arfield scored a wonderful team goal.
Some excellent midfield transition play from Glen Kamara saw Jermain Defoe dummy a pass into Arfield’s pass, who found the net. Former players Hill and Forrester were delighted on Twitter after the match.
TBR’s view
Rangers showed an enormous sign of intent. Steven Gerrard’s signings have all come together, and the likes of Defoe, Arfield, Jon Flanagan, Nikola Katic, Kent and Kamara all shone for the Teddy Bears on Sunday.
With Celtic still yet to announce a permanent manager, the loss to Rangers may have the board thinking elsewhere than Lennon. Meanwhile, Rangers have already made three signings for next summer.
The tide is beginning to turn, and that was shown not only in a Rangers win – but their utter domination of Celtic on Sunday. Nine in a row is going to be much harder than eight.
