Hard to quantify how big a boost Manuel Lanzini’s return is for West Ham United

West Ham United have been handed a huge boost this week with the news that Manuel Lanzini may be set for his return to first-team action. The Argentine playmaker has not played since scoring twice in a 3-1 win for West Ham against Everton at the end of last season. He suffered a serious knee injury whilst training with Argentina for the World Cup and it was feared he could miss the entire 2018-19 season.

However, he is back in training and could feature at the weekend against Fulham.

It is hard to quantify just how important the 26-year-old’s return to action is for West Ham. The Argentine playmaker has been sensational since joining the Hammers from Al-Jazira in 2015.

Indeed, it was the sort of form that had wanting eyes settling on the player. As reported by The Mirror in 2017, West Ham slapped a £30 million-plus price-tag on the player amid interest from Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

It could be argued that his form in the year between then and his injury was even better than before. West Ham might have had to field interest for the player had he got a chance to shine at the World Cup.

So to have a £30 million player coming back into the team at the end of February is obviously a massive boost for West Ham.

Hopefully, he has not lost any of his quality whilst out injured, as the Argentine is one of the best players to watch in the Premier League.
