Antonio Conte has told Friday’s press conference – as per Football London – that Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon could completely overcome his latest injury, ahead of Sunday’s clash against Liverpool.

Spurs were the first club to complain of a new outbreak of positive tests. It saw their game against Leicester on Thursday cancelled – as well as their Europa Conference League clash against French side Rennes.

Antonio Conte’s side last played on December 5. They take on Liverpool in North London on Sunday, a Liverpool side who come into the game off the back of a 3-1 win over Newcastle United on Thursday.

Whether a lack of momentum will affect Spurs badly, or a rest might actually benefit them – we will not know until Sunday. What is a positive, is that it has allowed £48k-a-week (Spotrac) ace Reguilon to recover.

Asked about Reguilon’s return to fitness, having come off after 22 minutes against Norwich last time out, Conte stated the left-back is “happy”. He believes that Reguilon could be fully fit by tomorrow.

“Sergio until today trained apart but he’s ready to have the training session with us tomorrow. I hope that tomorrow he’s totally recovered but today Sergio was happy. His feeling was good,” Conte said.

Conte on Reguilon: Tottenham defender’s return a boost for Spurs

With Spurs set to come up against Mo Salah on Sunday, if of course the game goes ahead, then Tottenham will need to be at full strength down the left. That means, Ben Davies and Reguilon.

While Reguilon’s defensive qualities have been question at times, what will help Tottenham is Reguilon’s pace – combined with Davies’ aggression and defensive sturdiness. A big boost ahead of Sunday.
