Club Brugge midfielder Hans Vanaken has confirmed West Ham United failed with a recent bid for him.
The 28-year-old was speaking to reporters while on Belgium duty when he made the admission.
West Ham were scrambling to get players in on Monday, but fans were left frustrated with not a single incoming to get excited about in the end.

Vanaken was a player West Ham were looking at, but after failing with a recent bid he then penned an extension with Brugge, leaving David Moyes unable to make an improved offer on deadline day.
He said, as quoted by Belgian publication Sporza: “It’s true that Club refused a bid, but that has always been communicated correctly.
“In the end, Club Brugge made an effort towards me. If I really wanted to go, I might have played it dirtier, but that’s not how I am. It also shows the respect that there is between me and the club.”
West Ham are still able to sign players from EFL clubs, with the domestic window remaining open until October 16, however they have now missed their chance to raid clubs overseas.
TBR’s View – Vanaken might prove to be a regret
With five goals and three assists in his first eight games of 2020/21, Vanaken is looking like a player who could be a real regret for the Hammers.

West Ham do have a goal threat in the form of the brilliant Tomas Soucek, but aside from him there’s no one else who can score or assist from deeper position on the pitch.
