BBC pundit Mark Chapman was surprised after Micah Richards claimed that Tottenham need to spend upwards of £100 million to become a competitive side.
Spurs have lost three games in a row in the Premier League and things don’t look great. They were really poor against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, especially in the first half, where they could’ve easily conceded more than just two goals.
Tottenham are now eighth in the league table, three points behind their fierce rivals and top-four challengers Arsenal, who have played the same amount of games as them.
It will not be easy for them to get into the Champions League places this term and Richards thinks they’ll need at least £100 million worth of new players in the summer to be good enough to compete with the other top sides.
Micah Richards: Tottenham need to spend £200 million in the summer
The Premier League winner said on BBC 5 Live’s The Monday Night Club podcast: “Awful! Absolutely awful. It’s not Conte’s problem, in the summer, he needs to spend £100 million plus. Get him some proper players. £100 million plus, I would go, maybe £150-200 million, whatever you can get.”
A surprised Chapman hit back at Richards saying, “Hang on a minute, we just spend the first 40 minutes praising a club who aren’t not spending £100 million,” referring to their discussion earlier in the show about the good job Southampton are doing.
Richards defended his claim by saying: “But the expectations are completely different.
“Spurs can’t bring players in and wait for them to play well in a year or 18 months. They need ready-made (players). Conte is a winner, he hasn’t got time to wait about for young players.”

TBR View:
If Daniel Levy tells Conte he can spend £150-200 million on new signings in the summer transfer window, the Italian will be a happy man and he will be confident of turning things around at Tottenham.
However, even the most optimistic Spurs supporter will find it hard to believe that Levy would sanction £200 million in the summer, especially without selling Harry Kane for about the same money.
Tottenham really are struggling at the moment and they need all the help they can get. All eyes will be on the summer transfer window irrespective of where Spurs finish this season and if there isn’t enough investment, it really wouldn’t be a surprise to see Conte force his way out.
