‘Hands off’, ‘Play him’: Some Liverpool fans react to reported interest in player Klopp ‘doesn’t rate’
Some Liverpool fans have been reacting on social media to reports by FotoMac, claiming Fenerbahce want to sign defender Konstantinos Tsimikas on loan.
The Greek left-back moved to Anfield from Olympiacos last summer for £12million, but struggled to establish himself under Jurgen Klopp. He made just two Premier League appearances all season, totalling a mere five minutes.
Thigh and knee injuries restricted Tsimikas’ availability during his first months on Merseyside. He featured in just four of Klopp’s matchday squads before the turn of the year. Afterwards, the 25-year-old was held to a backup role behind Andrew Robertson.
Now, Liverpool intend to send Tsimikas out on loan for the year, because they want him to get back playing regular football. Fenerbahce would like to explore a deal for the nine-cap international, as Caner Erkin and Filip Novak were underwhelming last season.
Talks have also already begun over Tsimikas moving to Turkey for the 2021/22 season, as the Yellow Canaries round out their squad. The Sukru Saracoglu Stadium side believe they have a team capable of competing for the Super Lig but fell short by two points last season.
Liverpool fans react to Fenerbahce interest in Tsimikas
However, some Liverpool fans reacting online to Fenerbahce’s interest in Tsimikas want Klopp to keep the defender at Anfield. That’s because they believe the Greek international deserves a chance to impress next season after a difficult debut campaign.
Others are also concerned that Klopp would be leaving himself short at left-back if Tsimikas leaves. Robertson is Liverpool’s only other natural senior option, while Adam Lewis has moved to Livingston on loan.
But a few feel Tsimikas deserves the chance to secure a loan transfer, having been held to a reserve role. Some also question if Klopp values what he can offer on Merseyside.
