With Newcastle United on the verge of getting new owners, a number of Magpies fans have given their thoughts on the Sky Sports report suggesting that Steve Bruce will be given until the end of the season to prove his credentials.

Newcastle are in the final stages of a takeover bid, with the club now very close to being bought off Mike Ashley, as was initially reported by talkSPORT last Wednesday.

According to Sky Sports, the Saudi-backed consortium have now paid a deposit and exchanged contracts – which are legally binding – with Ashley, so the only aspect of the deal left to be completed is the Premier League’s Owners’ and Directors’ Test.

Newcastle’s prospective new owners are expected to have major ambitions upon arriving at St. James’ Park, but it could mean an uncertain future for Bruce.

However, Sky Sports claims he will be given until the end of the season at least to prove he is the right manager to guide the club to European football.

Some Newcastle fans gave their thoughts on the report and most believed Bruce certainly shouldn’t be given beyond the end of the season, if that:

Newcastle have nine Premier League games left to play, having all but secured safety already as they sit 13th, eight points clear of the relegation zone.
