Wayne Rooney is one of Manchester United’s greatest ever players.
The former England captain had it all in terms of goals, he could score volleys, free-kicks, tap-ins and anything in between.
Interestingly, Rooney had a knack of scoring goals from the halfway line during his career – doing it on more than one occasion, and speaking on the Premier League’s YouTube channel, Rooney has claimed that he would indeed practice that technique in training.
The former striker says that he’d often let fly in training and in games, claiming that Alex Ferguson would always have a go at him for attempting these shorts when they didn’t come off.

Alex Ferguson had a go at Wayne Rooney for shooting from the halfway line
The United legend spoke about his tendency to score from extremely long range.
“You scored a number of goals from the halfway line, is that something you’d practice in training or is your technique just so good?” Rooney was asked.
“I tried it a few times and in games as well. The amount of times Alex Ferguson had a go at me because it didn’t come off, but every now and then you catch one right and when you catch it right it’s a great feeling,” Rooney said.
Incredible
Alex Ferguson may not have liked these long-range shots, but it has to be said that tey make for incredible viewing.
Of course, shooting from such long-range often isn’t the best course of action especially in the era of expected goals and hyper-efficiency in terms of tactics, but these goals make for some of the most memorable moments in football.
Rooney was such a maverick in that he’d give these shots a go whenever he saw an opportunity, and, remarkably, more often than not, these efforts would come off and end up in the back of the net.
