Gylfi Sigurdsson offers assessment of Everton’s start so far

Everton midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson is pleased with the club’s start to the 2019/20 season and is excited by the potential goalscoring capabilities of the team.

The Toffees have opened their Premier League campaign with two wins, one draw and one defeat and at the moment they sit sixth level on points with Crystal Palace, Arsenal and West Ham United.

Marco Silva’s side have scored four goals so far, (and put four past Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup) but Iceland international Sigurdsson is convinced he’s seen enough to believe the Blues can be more potent in front of goal.

He said, as quoted by the club’s official website: “Over the past two games, it has clicked. We are scoring goals now, which is fantastic.

“We have had to stay patient. We know as long as we’re creating chances, we are not far away from scoring.”

And Sigurdsson reckons the summer addition of Alex Iwobi will help the team score more goals – with the Nigerian having bagged on each his first two starts for the club.

“He has scored two great headers,” Sigurdsson added. “He is getting himself into those [goalscoring] positions. To score two headers in two games is fantastic for him. Hopefully that will continue.”

Putting three past Wolves, who were great defensively last term, was impressive and the Blues could be set to kick on from here.

Once £34 million signing Iwobi (BBC Sport) and the other new signings like Moise Kean fully settle in, then Everton could become a different animal this time around.
