Gylfi Sigurdsson discusses Everton’s embarrassing derby defeat to Liverpool

Gylfi Sigurdsson was the only Everton player who faced the media after Sunday’s 1-0 loss against Liverpool, according to the Daily Mail.

They quote the former Tottenham man expressing his disappointment about the result after a humiliating second half display led to the defeat.

He said: “Everyone associated with the club – fans, staff, players – are disappointed with the result. We have only got ourselves to blame not to have taken our chances in the first half. It’s very disappointing. We’ve just got to make sure we continue the form we had in the Premier League the last couple of weeks and try to finish off the season strongly.

“Every manager we have had has been very determined to do his best and very serious about his job. The manager we have now is no different. It’s not up to me to decide [my future]. Everyone is totally disappointed. I think the players are all different people in how they deal with the loss. It’s one of those things.”

TBR’s View – Sigurdsson no longer has an obvious role at Everton

Sigurdsson is supposed to offer class and experience to this Everton side but he was a passenger at Anfield on Sunday before being hooked.

He was out of position in central midfield but as a number 10 he has long since stopped influencing games and there’s no obvious role for him in a full strength Toffees side.
