West Ham United target Guillermo Maripan has cast doubt over any transfer move this summer.

The defender was speaking after helping his nation Chile advance to the Copa America semi-final at the expense of Colombia this weekend.

As reported by Redgol, the defender admitted he was not sure if this was the right time to leave his current club Alaves.

“I do not know if it is time to change, I am very comfortable at Deportivo Alavés and now I am focused on what is the Copa América and the national team, I am not thinking about that.”

The Sun reported earlier this month that West Ham were hoping to secure the Chilean defender this summer. A £15 million initial bid was suggested. However, the report also claimed Alaves would not sell for cheap. The Spanish side are hoping to hold out for Maripan’s £22 million release clause.

Manuel Pellegrini is believed to be a big fan of his countryman. West Ham need defensive cover and the Chilean could be the perfect option.

Maripan had an excellent start to last season with Alaves. At one point, it looked like the Basque club would fight for a Champions League spot. Despite dropping off and ending up 11th in La Liga, Maripan’s performances were impressive throughout 2018-19.

However, it certainly sounds like Maripan is not sure if he is ready to leave the Mendizorrotza this summer.
