Guillem Balague discusses whether Newcastle will sign Real Madrid star Gareth Bale

Guillem Balague has claimed on his official Youtube Channel that Gareth Bale is not interested in a move from Real Madrid to Newcastle United this summer – even if a takeover is completed in the coming days or weeks.

Bale, who turns 31 this summer, is being linked with an exit this summer as Real Madrid look to raise funds, with the global health crisis affecting their finances. However, his enormous wages are said to be preventing an exit.

The former Southampton and Tottenham star has been linked with a return to north London and to Manchester United, and to both China and the MLS. Now, Newcastle’s £300million takeover has seen the Toon linked with a move.

Spanish site Marca claim Newcastle are interested and the club’s soon-to-be owners have made the Wales star a priority. The report states that Real Madrid want just £17.5million for Bale, but Balague does not think Bale will want to move to Tyneside.

“Bale doesn’t have an interest, right now, in going to Newcastle, even if [the takeover] happens,” Balague said. “And then yes it’s true that there will be a limit due to Financial Fair Play. That’s the story, that Bale is not interested in going to Newcastle.”

TBR’s view – Move for Bale was always going to be difficult

Bale would have been a top, big-name signing for Newcastle. But the Welshman’s astronomical wages, and his current contract situation – which lasts for another two years – was always going to make a deal difficult.

The Toon need to be careful of Financial Fairplay, too. Bale’s wages would see Newcastle burst through the ceiling and despite their riches, they need to spend on young talent that can improve for years to come – rather than spend big on elder players.
