Guillem Balague claims Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen is first choice for Real Madrid

Sky Sports pundit Guillem Balague has claimed in a video uploaded to his personal Twitter account that new Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane will look to sign Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen this summer.

Zidane is set to be reinstated as Real Madrid manager on Tuesday. Balague discussed his imminent appointment, which sees the sacking of Santiago Solari.

Though Spurs fans can breathe a sigh of relief with Mauricio Pochettino still at the helm, Balague claims 27-year-old Eriksen and Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard will be first choice for Zidane this summer.

Balague also delivered an update on Gareth Bale, claiming that the appointment is bad news for the Wales winger given the hostility between both Bale and Zidane during the Frenchman’s last stint as Madrid boss.

“Zidane’s appointment may mean difficulties for Gareth Bale,” Balague said. “He did not get on very well with Zidane. Sergio Ramos will have his authority reinforced.

“Zidane also wants the likes of Hazard, and perhaps even Eriksen in his new side. He will be given all of the sporting authority and other things he has suggested in the summer Florentino Perez did not want him to do.”

TBR’s view

Eriksen is likelier to leave Spurs – especially for Real – more than ever. In the final 15 months of his contract and with Spurs struggling in the Premier League, Eriksen will surely be tempted by Real.

The comments from Balague on Bale puts weight behind a possible swap between Bale and Eriksen – as reported by the Daily Express earlier this month.

Spurs will be desperate not to lose Eriksen but with only two transfer windows before his contract expires, they may have to consider losing the Danish playmaker.
