Guillem Balague asked whether Real Madrid feel they made mistake with Spurs’ Sergio Reguilon

Guillem Balague has insisted on his YouTube channel that Real Madrid do not feel that they made a mistake allowing Sergio Reguilon to join Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

Many Real fans may have expected Reguilon to take a spot in Zinedine Zidane’s plans this season. He returned to the Bernabeu in the summer after a superb loan spell at Sevilla.

However, he was soon on the move again. As reported by Sky Sports, Spurs agreed a deal that could ultimately cost Jose Mourinho’s side £32 million. Spotrac shows that he earns around £48,000-a-week.

Reguilon has taken little time to establish himself in the Premier League. He has been incredibly exciting for Tottenham.

Zidane’s decision therefore, has come under scrutiny. Ferland Mendy and Marcelo have shared the left-back role in his side. And the latter, in particular, has come in for plenty of criticism this term.

Balague suggested that he would deem Los Blancos’ decision to let Reguilon go to be a mistake when asked whether they rue the sale. However, he admitted that Zidane thinks differently.

“No, because Zidane took the decision,” he said on YouTube channel, when asked if Madrid regret letting him go. “He wanted to keep Marcelo. That, for me, is a mistake quite clearly. And he wanted to give Mendy the number one role as left-back, who is a very, very good left-back.

“He doesn’t trust Reguilon. That’s it, so it cannot be a mistake when Zidane had a very clear understanding of what the three can offer. Now from my point of view, yes, Reguilon should be at Real Madrid.”

Balague’s response will be particularly pleasing for Spurs fans. While they did sign him permanently, there is a concern that they may be powerless to prevent him one day returning to Spain.

As noted by BBC Sport, Madrid agreed a buy-back clause as part of the deal. So their struggles may worry some in North London hoping to see Reguilon stay for some time.

But Balague’s comments certainly hint that they may have little to worry about, at least while Zidane remains at the helm.
