Griffiths return gives Rodgers welcome headache for crucial Europa League clash

Leigh Griffiths was back in action for Celtic at the weekend and he got himself on the score sheet.

After nearly two months out, Griffiths was introduced as a 75th minute substitute against Hamilton Academical.

And he scored the third goal in a 3-0 win, drilling home a low free-kick from just outside the box.

Griffiths’ return to first-team action is a timely boost for Brendan Rodgers, who needs his squad at full tilt in midweek.

This Thursday, Celtic travel to Rosenborg in a crucial Europa League group stage game.

With two games left to play, the Bhoys are in third place but they are level on points with Red Bull Leipzig in pursuit of second spot.

Rodgers knows that the trip to Rosenborg is crucial as the Norwegian side are yet to pick up a point in the Europa League.

And Griffiths’ return to action has presented Rodgers with a pleasant selection headache.

Does he stick or twist with Odsonne Edouard and Griffiths competing for the starting striker spot?

Griffiths has six goals in 19 games for Celtic this season, including the winner against Rosenborg at Celtic Park.

Edouard has scored 12 goals in 23 games but has been off the boil in the last two matches, drawing blanks against Livingston and Hamilton.

But Rodgers should probably keep his faith with Edouard on Thursday night – at least until Griffiths is fully fit again.
