After the Old Firm loss against Celtic, it appears that Rangers’ slim hopes of challenging for the title this season have been dented.
Instead, Steven Gerrard needs to start preparing for the 2019/20 season. Rangers need a handful of good signings to ensure they mount a serious title bid next term.
According to The Daily Record, soon-to-be free agent Greg Stewart is on Rangers’ radar. Birmingham City do not see a future for the striker and Rangers are keen.
But this would be an underwhelming signing, even on a free transfer. Stewart is not the prolific striker Rangers need to bridge the gap to the top of the league.
The 29-year-old has shown what he can do in glimpses during his time in the Scottish Premiership but he is not the next level striker Rangers should target.

Stewart has spent the past two seasons on loan in Scotland after failing to score in 22 games for English side Birmingham.
He scored four goals in 38 games for Aberdeen in the 2017/18 season before a profitable loan spell at Kilmarnock earlier this season yielded a tally of eight in 16.
But since returning to Aberdeen, he has struggled in front of goal again. Stewart has netted just twice in 14 games for the Dons since his January switch.
Rangers need to be aiming higher than Stewart, even if he is available on a free transfer.
