Greg Docherty sends reminder to Steven Gerrard with excellent Shrewsbury display

In January Rangers picked up a fantastic coup by signing Hamilton Academical midfielder Greg Docherty. The Scotland under-21 international joined in a reported £600,000 deal, according to Sky Sports. Rangers beat the likes of Crystal Palace to his signature and he was soon catching the eye for the Rangers first-team under Graeme Murty.

However, in the summer, Rangers appointed Steven Gerrard as their new boss. He signed Ovie Ejaria and Lassana Coulibaly on loan and allowed Docherty a similar spell away from Ibrox.

The 22-year-old headed to England, joining League One promotion hopefuls Shrewsbury.

Last night, he sent another reminder to Gerrard that his long-term future remains in Glasgow.

The Rangers loanee scored in the 35th minute of what was an impressive display from central midfield.

Picking up the ball on the left, he switched inside to his right-foot, before firing a low drive from 20 yards out beyond the despairing keeper.

Fans at Montgomery Waters Meadow are certainly enjoying having the Rangers man in their ranks. After a slight dip in form, this is exactly what he needed to get back to his best for Salop.

Gerrard will no doubt be keeping tabs on his Rangers talent over the next few months.
