'Greedy': Micah Richards shares what Liverpool star is like behind the scenes

Micah Richards has told BBC Sport what Liverpool star Mo Salah is like in training, having played alongside the Egyptian at Serie A side Fiorentina.

Salah, 29, is on fire at the moment – scoring nine goals and laying on three assists in his nine appearances so far. He is being lauded in the press.

Many are suggesting that right now, he is the best player in the world – and certainly, the best player in the Premier League following his start to 21-22.

He is the talk of the town – despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford. As Liverpool mount their title challenge, Salah is the heartbeat.

Richards spoke on Monday Night Club about Salah, sharing just how good he was during a loan spell from Chelsea at Fiorentina back in 2015.

“I’ve been saying Salah is world class for years,” Richards said. “In training, I was like, ‘this guy isn’t real’. He could dribble past five players.

“Then he’d chip it over the keeper. You could play the ball to him as hard as you want and the first touch would be there.

“He was greedy in training as well because he just knew he was going to score. I saw it – and now, I’m not surprised what he’s doing.”

Richards on Salah: Liverpool star is the best in the world right now

On current form, he is the best. Everything Salah touches is turning to gold and while he has always been top 10, his form has gone up a level or two.

He is shining beyond expectation, even though, those expectations of Salah are already ceiling-tall. The Liverpool star will be the crux of a title charge.

In terms of competition when it comes to discussing the best in the world – Lionel Messi is still getting started at PSG. Ronaldo is impressing at United.

But the latter is now 36, and will not start every game. Kevin De Bruyne is not at his best, but is slowly returning to it – Salah, though, is another level.

He is the best in the world right now, and he can take Liverpool to the Premier League title. For Liverpool fans, a new deal is key.
