Merseyside Derbies in recent years have had a tendency to bring about late goals and it proved to be the case again on Sunday evening as Divock Origi scored an injury time winner for Liverpool against Everton.

The Belgian was a substitute and pounced as Jordan Pickford failed to deal with Virgil Van Dijk’s speculative volley from distance with virtually the last attack of the game.

The goal sparked wild scenes at Anfield and fans all over the world celebrated in style thanks to the crucial result, which keeps the Reds just two points off of Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp dashed on to the pitch to celebrate and hugged Alisson Becker as part of the moment, signifying the passion and joy of the last ditch goal.

After a tense and hard-fought tie, Liverpool looked set to be forced to settle for a 0-0 draw as a resolute Everton side held tight to hold onto a point.

The win also extended Liverpool’s record against Everton, who have not beaten their arch rivals at Anfield since 1999.
