‘Great news’, ‘magic’: Some Celtic fans react to report about ‘cracking’ player

A number of Celtic fans have welcomed the reports claiming Stephen Welsh has escaped serious injury.

The Hoops defender was stretchered off after St Mirren striker Jon Obika accidentally caught him on the ankle in the second half of Wednesday’s Scottish Premiership clash.

Television footage showed the 21-year-old go over badly on his ankle, and hobbled out of St Mirren Park wearing a protective boot after the 4-0 win.

According to the Daily Record, Welsh was sent for a check-up with the club and player relieved to discover there were no breaks or ligament damage.

Sky Sports also reported that Welsh has suffered severe bruising and little more, and he’ll will be assessed by the medical team ahead of Sunday’s clash with St Johnstone.

And plenty of Bhoys fans were pleased about the report out of Lennoxtown, expressing their relief on social media:

Welsh has been brought into the Celtic defence with Christopher Jullien sidelined and Shane Duffy failing to impress.

He has made six Premiership appearances under Neil Lennon this season.
