Grant McCann praises Marcelo Bielsa for post-match comments but suggests Leeds United were lucky

Leeds United defeated Hull City last night in what was a tough task against the Tigers. The Whites had to wait until late on to grab two quick-fire goals to take their winning run to seven games and put themselves 11 points clear in the automatic promotion places. An own goal from Jordy De Wijs and Ezgjan Alioski’s finish off a sublime counter-attack eventually earned Leeds all three points.

But for large parts of the game Hull played well, a point manager Grant Mccann was quick to make after the game.

As quoted by the Hull Daily Mail, even Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa had a word with McCann after the game to tell him how impressed he was with their performance.

“I really appreciated Marcelo Bielsa speaking to me afterwards and telling me how good we were but we want to be told that when we win…

“For us to concede off Leeds’ first shot on target – and an own goal – was frustrating for us.

“These are things you get when you’ve got the momentum that Leeds have. You get those bits of luck. For the second goal we thought we’d scored. We switch off for 20 seconds and then the ball is in the back of our net.”

It is no surprise to hear of Bielsa’s classy response after the game. The Argentine is highly-regarded among other managers for his respect of his opponents and Hull did enough to deserve his respect.

Leeds fans, however, will be ecstatic at the side’s current run of form, which is closing in on their record number of wins in a row, nine, from 1931.
