Granit Xhaka has taken to Instagram to express his delight after Arsenal secured their first league victory in more than two months on Monday – and it appears that the midfielder has looked to extend something of an olive branch to the supporters.
Freddie Ljungberg has his first win since taking charge on an interim basis. And it is the Gunners’ first three points in the Premier League since they beat Bournemouth in early October.
Arsenal came from 1-0 down at West Ham United to win 3-1. The Gunners’ three goals came in a frantic nine-minute spell during the second-half.
Gabriel Martinelli initially equalised with his first league goal for Arsenal. It was Nicolas Pepe who put the Gunners in front with a stunning finish, before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put some daylight between the two sides.
It was arguably not a night that can allow Arsenal to get carried away. The Hammers went into the game woefully out of form, and the Gunners were poor at times.
But it is clear that many of the players are hoping that this a turning point for them. And perhaps no player needs a turning point more than Xhaka.
The midfielder’s Emirates career looked to be over after October’s draw with Crystal Palace. He has since returned to the fold and has started all three of the games that Ljungberg has taken charge of.
Xhaka still appears to have a long way to go with some fans. And his performance at the London Stadium probably did him few favours in truth.
But he has taken to social media to encourage a sense of unity…
