Leeds United are back in the Premier League, and they’ve not wasted any time in getting to work in the transfer market.

Indeed, Leeds have already secured their first signing of the summer in the shape of Lukas Nmecha, while Jaka Bijol is set to join Leeds soon too.

Speaking on the Inside Elland Road Podcast, Graham Smyth has been discussing Nmecha’s move to Leeds, and he’s shared how the club see their new signing fitting into the squad next season.

According to Smyth, Leeds see Nmecha as a squad player who can help the team from the bench next season.

How Leeds see Lukas Nmecha

Smyth shared what he knows about Nmecha and how Leeds view the attacker.

According to the journalist, Leeds see the striker as a squad player more than a starter.

Interestingly, Smyth also suggested that Patrick Bamford could be in trouble after this signing.

“It was all done and dusted by the mid-afternoon, first signing through the door. Quite experienced now, he’s had his fair share of injuries. The two-year deal reflects a lot of how Leeds see this deal, they see him as a squad player,” Smyth said.

“Yes, he comes with an injury CV as Daniel Farke would say, but he’s a player they think can help, it’s an interesting one because it has ramifications and there are natural questions when you see this transfer. This is what Patrick Bamford was doing last season, so what does it mean?”

Lukas Nmecha stats this season

Leeds view Nmecha as a squad player, and that may be the role the striker has to play next season.

Indeed, while Nmecha looks like a talent, as Smyth says, he’s not an incredibly reliable player.

Sadly, Nmecha has had injury issues, and that’s meant he’s been limited in terms of how much he’s been able to play recently.

Nmecha’s stats from this season tell the whole story.

Three goals in 456 minutes is actually a very good return, but, as the old saying goes, the best ability in football is availability.

If Nmecha can stay fit, he could be a real asset for Leeds, but, sadly, Leeds aren’t expecting too much from the striker at this point.

Leeds are still keen on other strikers too, hence why they bid £32m for Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz.
