Moussa Sissoko has been linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur recently – and Graham Roberts has already waved goodbye. The Spurs legend paid tribute to Sissoko and his time at Tottenham. That is, despite reports only suggesting that there is interest in the Frenchman.

Sissoko, who turns 32 this month, was integral to Tottenham last season – clocking up 42 games in all competitions. While only 25 of those were from the start, the 71-time France international remains a crucial part of the Spurs side. But that could be about to change with Fabio Paratici on board.

The Athletic have said in the past couple of weeks that Paratici wants the ex-Newcastle man off the books. Meanwhile, The Times say he could following Toby Alderweireld to the Middle East. Roberts gave his verdict on Twitter, wishing him well although such a message might be premature.

Right decision to let Sissoko leave Tottenham – amid Roberts comments?

Yes. The mistake Tottenham made was handing the midfielder a four-year deal to keep him at the club until June 2024. It means that Spurs might find it difficult to offload Sissoko. He has been a solid servant to Spurs, surpassing 200 appearances in five seasons. But Spurs need to progress.

If they are to do so, then they need to spend money on younger players that can take the club forward. Sissoko is not that kind of player and getting him off the wage bill frees up space for Paratici to work in. If a club come in with a decent enough offer, Sissoko has to go.
