Graham Roberts hailed defender Japhet Tanganga for his latest performance and claimed he hopes he stays at Tottenham for his entire career.
The 20-year-old is a highly-rated talent to come out of the Spurs academy and he’s started to get a flavour of senior football recently.
He made his firs-steam debut in a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool last weekend in the Premier League and caught the eye with his assured performance.
Jose Mourinho gave him another opportunity in midweek, as he started him on Tuesday night against Middlesbrough.
The North London club recorded a 2-1 home win in an FA Cup third round replay and will travel to Southampton in the next round.
Ex-Spurs player Roberts is excited about young prospect Tanganga and hopes he can stay at the club like Ledley King.
King was a former captain and defender at Spurs, who is regarded as one of the club’s best ever centre-backs and he spent his entire career with them.
“Japhet Tanganga superb again last night mate I hope you have a wonderful career at Tottenham and have one club like the brilliant Ledley King,” Roberts wrote on his personal Twitter account.
The excitement around Tanganga is a little overboard considering he’s only played in two senior games, but there is no doubt he looks mature for his age and it’s a good sign that Mourinho is giving him chances.
He’s a versatile defender that can play centre-back or right-back and he needs to ensure he takes all the opportunities that are thrown at him for the rest of the season.
His current deal is due to expire in the summer and Spurs need to ensure they wrap up his long-term future quickly with a new contract, as he’s clearly got a lot of potential.
