Graham Roberts reacts on Twitter to Tottenham loss at Chelsea

Graham Roberts has issued a brutal verdict on Twitter to Tottenham Hotspur’s performance in the first-leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea, labelling the display ’embarrassing’.

Antonio Conte’s men were comfortably beaten at Stamford Bridge. They were 2-0 down at the break after two calamitous goals, with both going in off of Tottenham players.

Spurs also failed to register a single shot during the first-half. And while they did improve after the interval, Chelsea may be almost as disappointed that they did not make more of their advantage.

Understandably, Roberts could not hide his frustration on social media. He suggested that there were no positives to take from the game, insisting that nothing went right.

Here is what Roberts made of the game…

Tottenham still have a few positives to reflect on after Chelsea loss

Roberts is right to respond so strongly to the performance. Tottenham are half way towards completely throwing away a massive opportunity to reach a final.

But there are a handful of positives. Some felt that Lucas Moura did well. And Bryan Gil showed some glimpses of his quality after coming on for the latter stages.

Roberts alluded to the fact that Conte needs to be given backing in the transfer market. And it is hard to imagine that Tottenham’s loss, and the manner of it, will not accelerate the work that they do in the January transfer window.

Spurs were not far off naming their strongest side. The likes of Hugo Lloris, Emerson Royal, Ben Davies, Oliver Skipp, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Lucas, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min all started.

But they struggled. Spurs need signings before the window shuts. And Fabio Paratici will be wasting no time after watching that performance.
