Graham Roberts has reacted on Twitter to the reported news that Tottenham Hotspur are in talks to sign Swansea City defender Joe Rodon for a fee that could reach a figure of £18million, as he continues to shine for the Welsh side.
Still only 22 years of age, Rodon has clocked up 54 senior appearances for his boyhood club – and has also clocked up four senior Wales caps. Sky Sports have claimed on the Transfer Centre (Monday, 17.58) that Spurs are in talks over an £18million deal.
Spurs have options at centre-back despite allowing Juan Foyth to leave on loan to Villarreal, while Jan Vertonghen has moved to Benfica on a free transfer. Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld and Japhet Tanganga are all options.
But Jose Mourinho has been keen to bring a central defender to Tottenham this summer with Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar being constantly linked. But with that move now unlikely, Rodon has been targeted and Spurs icon Roberts is a fan.
TBR’s view – Rodon is the ideal Spurs signing
Getting Skriniar would be a real coup, but he is very expensive and it would see Spurs have to bench the in-form Dier or the experienced leader that is Alderweireld. Sanchez has also been in good form.
With Rodon, he knows he will not be first choice to begin with – but will grow into a Spurs player in the long-term and have a real impact for the club in the Europa League, Carabao Cup and FA Cup. Almost a better move, than paying more for Skriniar.
