Graham Roberts has predicted that the goalscoring records will continue to fall for Tottenham’s Harry Kane, as he reached another landmark at the weekend with his converted penalty against Brighton.
Kane has now scored 149 goals in 214 Premier League appearances, which takes him joint-tenth in the all-time goalscoring charts alongside Les Ferdinand.
The 27-year-old Spurs forward has looked as potent as ever so far this season with 11 goals in 12 games across all competitions and he’s such a composed finisher that makes him one of the most feared attackers in Europe.
Spurs legend Roberts has stated it “won’t be long” before be breaks into the top five list of the Premier League’s top goalscorer.
Chelsea icon and current manager Frank Lampard holds that title with 177 Premier League goals, while the number one spot is Alan Shearer with his incredible 260-goal tally.
Roberts has thrown Kane’s name into the equation to break Shearer’s record, as well as overtaking Jimmy Greaves’ record of the highest Spurs goalscorer (266).
TBR’s View:
It’s not inconceivable to see Kane going to close to Shearer’s record by the time his career finishes, but for perspective he’s still 111 goals from levelling his tally and he’d surely have to perform at a top standard for another five or six years to be in the mix.
The England captain is showing no signs of slowing down in the present and he’s emphatically silenced doubters who weren’t sure if he could succeed under Jose Mourinho, who has historically been regarded as quite a defensive manager.
But he’s worked alongside and got the best out of some elite forwards in his career, including the likes of Didier Drogba, Karim Benzema, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo.
