Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly held talks with currently out-of-work manager Maurizio Sarri following the sacking of Jose Mourinho on Monday morning – but Graham Roberts has delivered his verdict on the potential arrival of the Italian boss.
Mourinho was relieved of his duties by Daniel Levy on Monday, less than a week before Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley. Mourinho leaves after a poor Europa League campaign, and Spurs in seventh with six to play.
Plenty of managers have been linked with replacing Mourinho and Sarri has emerged as a contender. Italian outlet CalcioMercato report that Spurs have opened talks to lure Sarri to Spurs, but Roma remain first choice for Sarri this summer.
Ryan Mason has been appointed as Tottenham manager on an interim basis until the end of the season, but it is unlikely that Spurs will continue with Mason beyond this term. Spurs legend Roberts gave a two-word verdict on the potential of Sarri.

TBR’s view – Sarri has the experience, but Spurs fans won’t welcome it
He has the calibre, CV and experience. The Italian has won Serie A, the Europa League and taken Napoli from a mid-table side into European competition. But if Sarri goes into Tottenham, Daniel Levy will have got it wrong with Spurs fans again.
Levy has already missed the feeling of Spurs fans after agreeing to sign up to the European Super League. If he appointed Sarri, it would be a second time in a matter of weeks in which he has disregarded the feeling among Spurs fans.
