Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed on their official website that Ryan Mason has returned to the club as a coach for the Spurs academy, and Graham Roberts has reacted on Twitter.

Mason, 28, has been involved in helping the Spurs academy during the 2018-19 campaign, as he looked to win his coaching badges. Mason has earned his stripes, and has been given a coaching role with the academy.

The former England international and ex-Hull City star has joined a new-look academy team that also includes ex-Portsmouth and West Ham star Matty Taylor, as well as former Leeds coach Nigel Gibbs.

Mason retired early during his career due to a head injury after a collision with Gary Cahill, ultimately forcing him to retire. Now, he is back at the club where he clocked up 70 appearances and Roberts is delighted.

TBR’s view – Mason is excellent Tottenham appointment

As a youngster, having someone as a coach who has come through the same academy you are currently in is inspiring, and it will surely help the Spurs teenagers kick on.

Mason has made himself out to be a well-spoken, humble man since his injury, doing plenty of work in the media and working hard to earn his badges. There are none that deserve the role more than the former midfielder.

Well-liked at Spurs and regarded as somewhat of an icon, his Tottenham legacy will continue as he looks to bring through the best talent and his presence will only be a boost to everyone involved at Spurs.
