Mauricio Pochettino has told BT Sport on Wednesday evening that he is desperate to return as manager of Tottenham Hotspur in the future – prompting reaction from many Tottenham fans and Spurs legend Graham Roberts on Twitter.
Pochettino was sacked by Tottenham after a dismal start to the 2019-20 campaign – ending a five-year spell at Spurs that saw Pochettino become an icon among supporters and considered one of the best managers in the club’s history.
Indeed, the Argentine took Spurs from a Europa League, top-six side into an established top-four outfit that continually qualified for the Champions League. Multiple title challenges and a Champions League final were highlights of his tenure.
But Pochettino never managed to hold aloft a trophy and that is the one big blot on his time in charge. Speaking to BT Sport after a throwback of the semi-final win over Ajax, Pochettino stated he would like to return to Tottenham.

“It was an amazing journey that finished in a way no-one wants to finish,” Pochettino said. “But deep in my chest, in my soul, in my heart, I am sure we will cross again. Since I’ve left the club, my dream is to come back.
“I want to finish the work that we didn’t finish. We were so close to winning the Premier League, the Champions League. I am looking to move on and I am so motivated for the next project. One day I want to be back. This club and fans are so special.”
Jose Mourinho is currently in charge at Spurs and although the Portuguese manager has taken Spurs back into contention for European football next season despite an extensive injury list, Spurs are far from the side that shone under Pochettino.
Tottenham supporters and Spurs icon Roberts all reacted on Twitter to Pochettino’s comments about a return in the future, and many went into meltdown – begging their former manager to return to the Tottenham dugout.
