Tottenham Hotspur earned a comfortable 2-0 win over London rivals West Ham United on Tuesday evening as Harry Kane got his name on the score sheet – and both Graham Roberts and Micky Hazard have reacted.
Spurs came into the match in dismal form, having failed to secure a win in their past seven matches. But a solid performance against Manchester United last Friday gave Jose Mourinho cause for hope.
That hope was well-placed, as Spurs strolled to three points against a lacklustre West Ham side that looked bereft of ideas – though Jarred Bowen did hit the post. An own goal from Tomas Soucek finally broke the deadlock.
It was two when Kane raced through on goal after an excellent pass from Son Heung-min, and he finished with aplomb. Hazard teased West Ham fans as Spurs beat their rivals, while Roberts applauded the display of Eric Dier.
The win sees Tottenham climb into seventh place above Sheffield United, who have picked up just one point from their two matches since the resumption. They are six points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
Spurs now have a decent period to rest, totalling nine days before they take on Chris Wilder’s Blades on July 2 at Bramall Lane. Mourinho will surely be pleased to have secured four points from the opening two games.
