Eddie Howe looks the favourite to be announced as Newcastle manager – and Graham Potter has given his verdict on The Toon’s potential new boss.
Howe, 43, is in talks with Newcastle and looks more and more likely to get the gig. That is, after Unai Emery turned down the chance to join.
Speaking amid reports that he had agreed wages and a release clause at Newcastle, Emery released a statement. He pledged loyalty to Villarreal.
It has left Newcastle with Howe likely to be appointed as Steve Bruce’s replacement. Whether Howe is in charge against Brighton, time will tell.
Graeme Jones is expected to be in charge for a third game, taking a press conference tomorrow. It would take a quick, last-minute change otherwise.

Speaking about the possibility of Newcastle hiring Howe, Potter – who has been linked – praised the ex-Bournemouth gaffer in a glittering verdict.
“He’s a really experienced guy, a fantastic Premier League manager,” Potter said. “As to what Newcastle do, I’ve no idea and not given it much thought.
Potter on Howe: Could Englishman take Newcastle forward?
Howe might not be the sparkly name that Newcastle fans had hoped for. He is not an Antonio Conte, a Zinedine Zidane or even an Emery.
But what he is, is experienced in the Premier League – as Potter says. Many remember his last act as taking Bournemouth down, to the Championship.
But many forget that he took the Cherries from the depths of the Football League and made them an established Premier League force.
He kept them up, year upon year, before eventual relegation. He has the knowledge, the tools and the experience to save Newcastle.
