Graham Dorrans discussed Premier League move after Rangers release

Graham Dorrans has claimed that he held talks with Premier League clubs over a potential move after leaving Rangers on a free transfer, in comments reported by BBC Sport.

Dorrans was released by the Gers after a hugely disappointing spell at Ibrox. There was a lot of optimism when he arrived from Norwich City in a £1.3 million move in 2017 (fee reported by Sky Sports).

However, he left two years later having made just 17 Scottish Premiership appearances for the Light Blues. Injuries plagued his spell in Glasgow, and he made just three appearances under Steven Gerrard.

Dorrans took little time to secure another move, with Dundee offering the 32-year-old a one-year deal, according to the club’s official website.

But it appears that Dundee were not the only side to make an offer. The midfielder explained that the chance to return to England’s top table was also discussed.

“There were conversations from Premier League teams in England but nothing came of them,” he said, as reported by BBC Sport.

“I’m here now and want to give 100%. I’ve got ambitions to get back playing at the top, as high as possible. Hopefully we can get Dundee back to the Premiership and see how it goes from there.”

The Ibrox faithful are likely to be incredibly surprised by Dorrans’s comments. While he made a very good start to life at Rangers, he proved to be a poor signing. And the writing looked to be on the wall for some time before his release.

A Premier League side may have been looking to add to the depth within their squads. But it would have taken many aback had Dorrans ultimately ended up joining a top flight club south of the border while he was a free agent.
