Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has praised Reds forward Sadio Mane for being a “warrior”, saying he could be kicked all game and he’ll still be back after you.
The 28-year-old has been superb for Liverpool since joining in 2016, making 201 competitive appearances and registering 92 goals and 39 assists.
This season, Mane has made 31 appearances, with 11 goals and three assists under his belt.
It’s not been the best of campaigns for Liverpool, but they’ll hope to make amends in Saturday’s Merseyside derby, the Reds hosting Everton at Anfield.
Merseyside derbies are usually very fiery affairs with tackles and challenges flying, but Souness feels Mane has the right traits to thrive in such a game.
He continued: “Mane as well – it’s a word you wouldn’t associate with Mane but he’s a proper warrior, I don’t think anyone gets an easy ride when you play against him.
“You could kick him in the first minute and then every five minutes after that but he’ll be back after you at every turn, he’s a real player.”
Mane hasn’t quite hit the same heights this season as he has in previous campaigns, but he’s not the only player whose form has dropped during what has been a very difficult season at Anfield.
The Reds have lost their last three league games, which isn’t ideal before coming up against your bitter city rivals, but they go into the derby on the back of a solid 2-0 victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
There’s no doubt sparks will fly as the two teams lock horns and Mane is sure to give the Toffees a hard time.
