Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has proved that he isn’t afraid to make big decisions.

The Australian has completely transformed Spurs since he took charge of the club. He has turned them into an exciting side, and fans are in love with that.

Postecoglou showed how brave he was before his debut Premier League season started – he decided against signing a replacement for Harry Kane.

Tottenham had a decent season without the England captain, but they have now finally replaced him by signing Dominic Solanke.

Graeme Souness has delivered his verdict on the move.

Graeme Souness says Dominic Solanke is a gamble for Tottenham

Tottenham completed the signing of Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth in a deal worth up to £65 million.

The Englishman had a terrific 2023/24 season. He scored 19 goals in the Premier League and proved that he has what it takes to deliver at the top level.

A number of clubs were linked with a move to sign Solanke, but Tottenham stepped up their interest in him and sealed the deal over the weekend.

Spurs fans are really excited to see how Solanke will fare, but Souness seems a bit worried about the former Liverpool striker’s consistency.

He has called Tottenham’s move to sign Solanke a ‘gamble’.

Souness said on talkSPORT: “Hell of a lot money for him, I think. £65 million?

“He has played, I think, 112 games and has got 28 goals. Was it 19 last year? He is not consistently scoring goals in the Premier League.

“I think it’s a bit of a gamble.”

There’s one big worry about Solanke for Tottenham fans

Tottenham were in desperate need of an out-and-out striker this summer, and Solanke quickly became their top target.

The former Bournemouth man checks a lot of boxes for Postecoglou – he’s strong, good in the air, can hold the ball up and bring his teammates into play. Furthermore, he showed in the 2023/24 Premier League season that he can be prolific too.

However, the one big risk is that Solanke might feel the pressure of his price tag.

We have seen many talented players secure big-money moves to top clubs and then struggle to live up to the expectations. That is definitely a worry with Solanke as well as he has cost Spurs a fortune.

But, the one positive is that Postecoglou’s men will create a number of chances for Solanke, so he will definitely not be starved of service.

He should back himself to convert those chances.
