Grady Diangana’s ambition is just what West Ham need to avoid relegation scrap

Having played a full hour against Tottenham, with Manuel Pellegrini backing him ahead of the likes of Michail Antonio on the bench, Grady Diangana is already showing his ambition.

The 20-year-old winger made his Premier League debut against Manchester United earlier this season and has arrived on the scene with the first team as he looks to build on his previous first team appearances in cup competitions.

“For me, it was a surreal experience getting that many minutes, but the feeling was kind of overshadowed by the result,” he told the club website.

“It showed that the staff and the manager believe in me, so I want to grasp every opportunity he gives me and continue to be able to get more opportunities.

“When you’re on the pitch, you try to be the best player you can be and want to be the best player on the pitch, so I’m just trying to get better and hopefully I’ll get that start soon.”

Having been selected to replace Andriy Yarmolenko, who now faces six months on the sidelines, he could become one of Pellegrini’s go to players as the Irons look to climb away from the bottom of the table.

There can be little doubt regarding his attitude as he continues to show the kind of grit and desire that many have accused the Irons’ squad of lacking.

With Michail Antonio for competition it may not be easy for Diangana, who will not be afforded the luxury of a quiet game, but he now has an opportunity under Pellegrini which few had foreseen before the start of the season. It’s one he’s ready to take.
