‘Got to do better’… BBC pundit slates £175k-a-week Tottenham player in West Ham loss

Tottenham Hotspur fell to their fourth defeat in five Premier League games on Thursday night.

Spurs were nigh-on unstoppable in the first three months of the campaign, but now alarm bells are starting to ring at N17.

Ange Postecoglou’s charges hosted West Ham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and found themselves on the receiving end of a 2-1 defeat.

During the game, Richarlison came on as a substitute with the score at 1-1 and had a great opportunity to put Tottenham ahead again.

The £60million man, moments after coming on, got up to meet a superb Pedro Porro cross, but he sent his header wide of the Hammers goal.

BBC Sport pundit Michael Brown, commentating on Radio 5 Live, wasn’t impressed by what he saw.

“Richarlison has got to score,” Brown said, as per the BBC Sport website. “He has got to do better at the back post with the quality he has.”

The returning Cristian Romero had got the ball rolling for Spurs. He headed in from Pedro Porro’s cross in the 11th minute of the match.

However, that’s as good as it got for Tottenham on the night, as the Hammers made the most of Spurs defensive errors to turn the game around.

West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen notched his seventh away league goal in as many games in the 52nd minute, following a mix-up between Romero and Ben Davies.

And in the 74th minute, James Ward-Prowse pounced on a defensive error from Destiny Udogie to slot home after his first effort had come off the post.

It’s a shame to see Richarlison continue to struggle. Since his £60million move to Spurs in 2022, the £175,000-a-week (Spotrac) man is still in single figures for goals. This despite closing in on half a century of appearances.

If any manager can get Richarlison back to his best, it’s Ange Postecoglou. Let’s hope we see improvements in the coming weeks and months.
