Gordon Strachan says Leeds have an 'absolutely terrific' talent in their ranks, he's a big fan
Leeds United legend Gordon Strachan has waxed lyrical about Patrick Bamford, describing the Whites striker as “absolutely terrific”.
The Elland Road marksman has enjoyed an impressive campaign, registering 16 goals and eight assists in the top flight this term.
Bamford’s efforts have helped Leeds secure a top-half finish in their maiden season back in the Premier League, their first since 2003-04.
Strachan, speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post ahead of Leeds’ season finale against West Brom, said the players who have caught his eye this season are too many to mention.
When pressed, he singled out Leeds’ promotion stalwarts out for specific praise, Bamford in particular.
“There’s about 13, 14 players who get picked and you wouldn’t say any one has been below what you expected from them,” he said.
“But there’s big plusses with Bamford, I think he’s been absolutely terrific.
“To lead the line, do so much work and do so much work when the other team’s got the ball and still have the ability to score goals, run the width of the 18 yard box and take knocks, I like him.
“I’ve always liked [Stuart] Dallas, [Luke] Ayling and [Kalvin] Phillips. That’s putting them just above players who are playing exceptionally well all the time.”
Marcelo Bielsa’s charges have enjoyed a superb season and it’s great to hear plaudits being sent their way from club-linked figures and neutrals alike.
And Bamford has had his fair share of critics over the years, but he’s certainly answered them in style, proving he belongs in England’s top tier.
