Gordon Strachan raves about Celtic's Jeremie Frimpong after 4-0 win
Gordon Strachan has told BT Sport’s post-match coverage of Celtic’s win over Aberdeen (broadcast on 27/10; 14:05) that Jeremie Frimpong was fantastic in the 4-0 victory, and insisted that the youngster has brought a new dimension to the club.
Frimpong put in another outstanding display as Celtic tore the Dons apart. Neil Lennon’s side could not have hoped for a better afternoon, as Derek McInnes’s men could barely lay a glove on the champions.
The 18-year-old certainly justified his selection. And he got a reward by bagging his first goal for the Hoops during the first-half at Pittodrie. He got onto the end of Odsonne Edouard’s cross, and made sure that he got the final touch after initially failing to make the best contact.
And after the full-time whistle, Strachan lauded the Netherlands under-19 international and suggested that he has made a massive impact since arriving from Manchester City in the summer.
“Fantastic. Absolutely fantastic,” he told BT Sport. “The message we have coming out of Celtic Park that he is a top kid. Desperate to learn, desperate to be a good player, desperate to be a great teammate. And I think that’s the way the guys have embraced him.
“They know he’s brought something to the club: enthusiasm, pace, ability to hold onto the ball when he needs to hold on. Doesn’t dismiss it. He’ll beat you when he needs to beat you. Apart from wanting him to be six inches taller, what a player. He’s brought a new dimension to Celtic.”
It appears that Celtic’s signing of Frimpong is going to be an inspired piece of business. He has caught the eye every time he has taken to the field for the Bhoys.
Frimpong needs to prove that he can maintain this form over a longer period, but the signs are incredibly positive. He is already looking like a fantastic player, and has so much time to get so much better.
